Delta: NDC urges issue-based campaigns ahead of 2027 elections

The Delta chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Angiamaowei Oyindoubra, has charged political office seekers to engage in issue-based campaigns and public commentaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr Oyindoubra gave the charge at a news conference on Thursday in Asaba while outlining the party’s political activities in the state.
He said that political contests should be determined by voters through the ballot box rather than intimidation, harassment, or actions capable of undermining democratic participation.
He urged political parties to campaign peacefully and allow the electorate to assess their records, policies, and candidates in order to make the right choices at the polls.
According to him, political parties seeking electoral victory should concentrate on persuading voters with credible programmes and convincing arguments rather than engaging in actions that could undermine democracy.
“If you are popular, campaign. If you are confident, persuade. If you believe you have performed, face the people,” Mr Oyindoubra said.
He admonished the security agencies and government institutions to remain neutral and ensure that the law was applied fairly to all political parties throughout the electoral process.
He said that the NDC would continue to organise, mobilise, and campaign peacefully within the provisions of the law ahead of the elections.
Mr Oyindoubra further urged Nigerians not to abandon the ballot box because of political frustration, emphasising the importance of citizens’ participation in the democratic process.
He challenged political opponents to engage the NDC on ideas, policies, and candidates rather than actions capable of distracting attention from issues affecting the electorate.
“Defeat our arguments with stronger arguments. Defeat our policies with better policies. Defeat our candidates by earning the confidence of the electorate.
“But do not attempt to defeat democracy itself,” Mr Oyindoubra said.
