Delta: One killed as armed robbers engage police in gun battle

An armed robber has died from a fatal gunshot injury after his gang members engaged officers of the Delta State Police Command in a gun battle.
The command’s public relations officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on his official X handle on Monday.
According to him, operatives of the Delta Hawk, along with officers attached to the Opkanam Police Division, embarked on the operation to arrest the criminals on Sunday.
This followed complaints about the robbery in Asaba, particularly in response to a distress call about a robbery operation at Marble Hill Junction.
The state’s police spokesperson said the injured armed robber died while receiving treatment in the hospital, adding that efforts are underway to arrest his fleeing gang members.
“The armed robbers, on sighting the police, opened fire on the team, and the team responded, during which one of the suspects was fatally injured while others escaped.
“The injured suspect was taken to the hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment. We will continue to go after these criminals,” he added.
