The Delta state police command has arrested Ezekiel Elijah for allegedly taking advantage of a 13-year-old hearing impaired girl and defiling her.

The spokesperson for the police command, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement with a video showing the suspect being interrogated.

Mr Edafe captioned the video, “Rape is different from defilement; for defilement, the consent of the underage girl is immaterial (which means you can’t say she is my girlfriend).”

“But in this case, the 13-year-old girl he defiled is even physically impaired. He took advantage of this child, lured her to his room and defiled her. May God help us,” he added.

The 22-year-old suspect, who during interrogation claimed to be from Aviara in Isoko South Local Government Area, admitted to the crime. He said that “the girl doesn’t hear clearly”, but he claimed he didn’t know his victim was 13 years old.

“I knew her from the street, two of them were passing, I called them but none of them answered. After they took three steps, one of them came back to me. I asked her to come to my house and she accepted and she followed me to my house,” the suspect narrated.

Mr Edafe said the suspect would be charged to court.
