Football’s biggest individual accolade is back again to crown the most outstanding players in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

The awards, annually presented by France Football since 1956, recognise the best of the best and acknowledge individual performances, achievements, and talent. The winners are determined by notable sports journalists and experts from around the world.

The 69th Ballon d’Or ceremony is set to take place at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, France, on September 22.

The 2025 awards will include the Men’s and Women’s Ballon d’Or, Kopa Trophy (best young player), Yashin Trophy (best goalkeeper), Gerd Müller Trophy (top scorer), Johan Cruyff Trophy (best coach), and Club of the Year Trophy, all presented in both male and female categories.

There are key favourites to win in every category, especially for the men and women. One is French winger Ousmane Dembélé, leading Paris Saint-Germain to a domestic treble and guiding them to their first UEFA Champions League triumph in club history. His campaign last season, the player returned to top form, silencing critics by delivering several assists and goals.

Teenage Youngstar also made his way to the list, having won the Kopa Trophy last year. He is again nominated for the same category and Men’s Ballon d’Or after securing a domestic treble with Barcelona last season. Napoli’s Scott McTominay was also one of the nominees for the Men’s Ballon d’Or, who led Napoli to title victory 12 months after leaving boyhood club Manchester United.

The Egyptian King wasn’t left out, having won the English Premier League and finishing as the league’s top scorer. However, his side, Liverpool, was unfortunately knocked out by PSG, falling short of European success. Defender Achraf Hakimi earned his spot on the list with an outstanding display of his talent, helping Paris Saint-Germain achieve both European and domestic success.

On the women’s side, Chloe Kelly earned a nomination after helping England’s Lionesses score the decisive penalty in the shoot-out with Spain Euro 2025 campaign to lead them to victory. 

Nigerian international and Brighton goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was shortlisted for the Women’s Yashin Trophy after leading Nigeria to a record 10th WAFCON title and impressing with Brighton in the WSL, where she was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament. 

Aitana Bonmatí continues to be a strong contender as she makes her way back onto the list after clinching the title of women’s best player last year. 

Brazilian international Marta Vieira joins the list after she led her side with a remarkable comeback to lead Brazil to a ninth Copa América Femenina title, scoring twice.
