Dialogue, engagement best options in dispute resolution, says Akwa Ibom governor

Akwa Ibom State governor Umo Eno has called on Nigerians, especially the youth, to shun violence and embrace dialogue and constructive engagement with government to enhance good governance.
Mr Eno said this on Saturday at the Nsit Ubium Local Government Council Secretariat, Ikot Edibon, after the Peoples Democratic Party chairmanship primary election.
He attributed the hitch-free conduct of the chairmanship primary elections of the PDP across the state to the peaceful and understanding disposition of the Akwa Ibom people.
He commended the people for their restraint amid the ongoing nationwide protest.
The governor restated his government’s commitment to exploring ways of ensuring the welfare and security of the people.
He also commended the security agencies in the state for ensuring peace and being civil in their approach, which yielded the right results.
According to him, funds that to be spent on repairing damaged facilities will be channelled into programmes that would register the appreciation of the government for the people of the state.
He said, “Dialogue and engagement with people respectfully have always yielded the best results. I commend the different units of the party for the harmonious conduct of the party primary elections. Thank you for keeping our state peaceful. For me, it is a big encouragement.’’
The returning officer for the chairmanship primaries for Nsit Ubium, Nsikak Obo, declared Alfred Charles the winner through the unanimous vote of all the accredited delegates at the election.
Mr Charles, in his acceptance speech, pledged to do his best to make the party and people of Nsit Ubium proud of the choice they made.
