DICON partners consulting, supply firm on arms
The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria is partnering with Consulting and Supply International Limited on arms production.
DICON’s spokesperson, Maria Sambo, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
Ms Sambo said the partnership was a continuous effort to establish a strategic partnership aimed at boosting indigenous defence production at the corporation.
She said, “This marked another milestone, having signed a new memorandum of understanding with Consulting and Supply International Limited.”
She said the signing took place on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to her, CSI is a leading distributor of tactical, military, sports, and law enforcement equipment headquartered in Nigeria.
“The company supplies arms, ammunition, tactical gear, body armour, vehicles, security solutions, and many more,” she said.
Ms Sambo stated that the director-general, Babatunde Alaya, announced that, following the alignment with the new DICON Act, signed by President Bola Tinubu in November 2023, the corporation was attracting both local and foreign investors.
Mr Alaya stated that this initiative aimed to support the development of a Military Industrial Complex focused on achieving self-sufficiency in military production and promoting exports.
The director-general pointed out that the partnership emphasised a commitment to local defence production and technology transfer.
Mr Alaya appreciated the president for signing the DICON Act 2023 and also lauded the defence minister and his deputy, the defence chief, and the service chiefs for their continuous guidance and support.
The CSI CEO, Fadi Bashoun, asserted that the partnership would also establish a state-of-the-art production facility in the DICON complex.
This, he said, was for the production of ammunition and other advanced defence systems tailored towards addressing the needs of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies.
