A diesel tanker burst into flames under Otedola Bridge, inward Berger, Lagos State, on Monday, after being involved in an accident.

The Lagos State Transport Management Authority, in a statement, said two casualties were recorded as a result of the accident, causing a traffic gridlock on the bridge.

LASTMA said, “A diesel-loaded tanker reportedly fell from Otedola Bridge, caught fire, and was engulfed in flames underneath the bridge inward, Berger. Two casualties were recorded, while the incident has resulted in traffic congestion around the affected location.

“Firefighters are on the scene battling the inferno, while emergency responders are attending to the situation and making arrangements to convey the victims to the hospital.

“Meanwhile, our personnel are managing traffic around the affected corridor to ensure the safety of road users and minimise traffic disruption.”

LASTMA advised motorists to exercise extreme caution when approaching the area and comply with the directives, as emergency response operations continue.

A viral video showed firefighters under the bridge, trying to put out the blaze, which has caused thick smoke to cover a section of the bridge.

A voice in the background of the video said the tanker fell from the bridge to the ground before going up in flames.
