The Deputy Inspector-General of Police overseeing the FCID, Sadiq Abubakar, has reaffirmed that the department remains Nigeria’s apex criminal investigation body.

Mr Abubakar spoke on Tuesday during a working visit to the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, as part of his statutory oversight duties.

A statement by FCID spokesperson, Aminat Mayegun, said the visit sought to strengthen investigative standards and operational efficiency.

Mr Abubakar told officers that the FCID “remains the apex of criminal investigation in Nigeria” and urged professionalism, discipline and integrity.

The DIG urged personnel to make positive contributions in their roles and project the Nigeria Police Force and FCID in a positive light.

He directed commissioned officers to closely supervise subordinates to entrench discipline, accountability and strict adherence to extant rules and procedures.

Mr Abubakar commended officers for their sacrifices and resilience, assuring them that their efforts were recognised by the Force leadership.

He said land ownership disputes were civil matters and should not attract police investigation unless crimes such aa fraud, threats or violence were established.

The DIG warned against parallel investigations, noting that duplication across sections causes inefficiency and wastes investigative resources.

Head of FCID Annex Alagbon, Margaret Ochalla, thanked Mr Abubakar for the visit and pledged commitment to the department’s mission.
