Funso Doherty, the Lagos governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress, says the state government should intensify investments in people-oriented projects and community development initiatives.

Mr Doherty, speaking during an interview in Lagos on Thursday, said this would improve residents’ quality of life. He said that while Lagos had recorded significant infrastructural growth over the years, greater attention should be paid to projects that directly impact the welfare of ordinary citizens.

He stressed that projects, particularly in education, healthcare, housing, youth empowerment and social protection, should be prioritised.

“Lagos is one of Africa’s most vibrant cities, but development should be measured not only by physical infrastructure but also by how it improves the daily lives of the people. Government must continue to invest in projects that touch every community and every household,” he said.

Mr Doherty urged the Lagos government to deepen grassroots development by partnering with community leaders, civil society organisations and the private sector to identify and address the peculiar needs of different communities.

He added that there was a need for policies that would support small businesses, create employment opportunities for young people and strengthen the state’s primary healthcare and educational systems.

According to him, the government should sustain environmental renewal programmes, improve waste management and expand urban renewal projects in underserved communities.

Mr Doherty said that doing this would ensure balanced development across the state and urged political office holders and public servants to embrace servant leadership and remain committed to policies that promote justice, peace and social welfare.

He called on Nigerians to continue supporting government’s efforts through peaceful coexistence, active citizenship and prayers for leaders at all levels.
