Don’t jeopardise your future for temporary pleasure, Bayelsa governor tells corps members

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, on Tuesday advised National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state not to jeopardise their future for temporary pleasure.
He urged them to remain disciplined, law-abiding and focused, warning that any involvement in unguided activities might cause them years of sacrifice to attain their current status as graduates.
The governor gave the advice at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch B Stream 1 Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Boro Town, Bayelsa.
Mr Diri, represented by his Executive Assistant on NYSC Matters, Wisdom Poyeri, commended the corps members for their discipline, resilience and active participation throughout the three-week orientation programme.
He urged them to uphold the values acquired in camp, stressing that the decisions they make during their service year could determine their future successes.
“Do not jeopardise your future for temporary pleasure. Remain law-abiding, diligent, focused and worthy ambassadors of the NYSC and your families,” Mr Diri advised.
He assured them of the state government’s commitment to providing a peaceful, secure and enabling environment throughout their service year.
“Bayelsa is your home for the next one year. Make it count and make the state proud,” he added.
Earlier, the Bayelsa State NYSC Coordinator, Samuel Pepple, congratulated the corps members on the successfully completion of their orientation course.
Mr Pepple urged them to uphold the discipline, patriotism and spirit of national unity instilled in them during the exercise, while making meaningful contributions to their host communities.
He encouraged them to carry out their assignments with dedication, integrity and a strong sense of responsibility.
The ceremony attracted representatives of key security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, State Security Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Also in attendance were the traditional ruler of Kolokuma community and other government officials.
