Driver arraigned for allegedly stealing friend’s tricycle in Kaduna

A 34-year-old driver, Rabiu Adamu, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a tricycle belonging to his friend, Salisu Haruna.
Mr Adamu, a tricycle operator who resides in the Kawo area of Kaduna, is charged with theft.
The prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, alleged that the defendant, on May 6, moved the tricycle of the complainant from where it was parked without his knowledge.
According to him, the complainant parked the tricycle worth N1.2 million in front of his residence at Hayin Banki, Kawo Kaduna.
The prosecutor said the tricycle, with registration number KAD 211 DC, was later recovered from the defendant, who was then arrested.
Mr Leo added that during the police interrogation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory explanation of what he was doing with the tricycle.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017, which stipulates three years of imprisonment for anyone convicted of stealing.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
Mr Emmanuel ordered that the surety provide a recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.
He adjourned the matter until June 18 for hearing.
