Driver flees as police intercept vehicle with bags of cannabis in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has confiscated a Toyota Sienna car containing illicit drugs, an army hat, and two ATM cards after flagging down the vehicle for a routine search.
The state police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Friday, said the driver, however, abandoned his vehicle and fled before the operatives discovered the exhibits.
Mr Hundeyin said, “Operatives of Ojo Division of the Lagos State Police Command have recovered a Toyota Sienna vehicle alongside items suspected to be cannabis and other exhibits during a routine stop-and-search operation within their jurisdiction.
“On 15th August 2025, while on routine patrol, the operatives stopped an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna. In the process of demanding the driver’s identification and vehicle documents, the driver suddenly jumped out and fled with the vehicle key, abandoning the car.
“A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the following items: one army jungle hat, two ATM cards, and two bags of substances suspected to be cannabis. The recovered vehicle and exhibits have been transferred to Special Squad 2 of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, for further investigation.”
Commending the vigilance of the officers, Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh assured that efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Mr Jimoh reiterated that his command is resolved to intensify patrols and intelligence-led policing across the state, urging residents to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
