Drug abuse major threat to social stability in Jigawa, says NSCDC

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has identified drug abuse as a major threat to social stability in Jigawa.
Muhammad Ingawa, the commandant of the corps, said this on Thursday in Dutse during a courtesy visit by Hassan Kabaju, commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the state.
He said collaborative efforts between security agencies and development partners was critical to address the menace, especially among youths and vulnerable groups.
Mr Ingawa reaffirmed the corps’ readiness to strengthen intelligence sharing, joint operations and community-based sensitisation with NDLEA to curb the menace in the state.
“The NSCDC remains dedicated to its core mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure as well as partnering with relevant stakeholders to foster peace, security and development across the state,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Kabaju commended the corps for its support in joint enforcement operations and pleaged continued partnership to tackle drug trafficking and substance abuse.
“Security agencies must continue to work in synergy to dismantle networks that endangered the moral and social fabric of communities,” Mr Kabaju said.
While reiterating commitment to sustained collaboration, Mr Kabaju underscored the importance of strategic information exchange and joint community outreach programmes to promote safety, social inclusion and sustainable development.
