Djamel White, an Irish debut novelist, has been named among the 13 writers longlisted for the 2026 Booker Prize.

The prize is one of the world’s most prestigious literary awards for fiction.

Mr White’s novel, ‘All Them Dogs’, published earlier in 2026, was one of the three debut novels selected for this year’s Booker Prize longlist.

The Dublin author’s novel is a fictional narrative about Tony Ward, a young gangster who returns to Dublin after five years in England, hoping to regain his place in the city’s criminal underworld.

The 2026 Booker Prize longlist, announced on Wednesday, features 13 novels by authors from seven countries across three continents.

Mr White’s novel, alongside previous Booker Prize winners Douglas Stuart’s John of John and Marlon James’ The Disappearers, was selected from 163 novels submitted by publishers for this year’s Booker Prize longlist.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Elizabeth Strout was also longlisted for the 2026 Booker Prize with her novel, The Things We Never Say.

Some other authors on the longlist include Chloe Aridjis, Emma Cline, Makenna Goodman, M. John Harrison, Luke Kennard, Kenan Orhan, Gwendoline Riley, Rebecca Perry and Missouri Williams.

A final shortlist of six books would be announced on September 22 at the Southbank Centre in London.

The Booker Prize, first awarded in 1969, is presented annually to the best original novel written in English and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland.

The 2026 judging panel is chaired by historian Mary Beard, alongside musician Jarvis Cocker, author Patricia Lockwood, writer Raymond Antrobus, and journalist Rebecca Liu.

The winner of the 2026 Booker Prize will be announced at a ceremony in London on November 9. The overall winner will receive £50,000, while each shortlisted author will be awarded £2,500.
