The member representing Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Kama Nkemkanma, has lamented the devastating flood in Akaeze, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

Mr Nkemkanma, during a visit to the affected community on Saturday, commiserated with residents who lost properties, homes, farmlands and other valuables worth “billions of naira” to the flood.

The lawmaker said he had engaged relevant federal and state government agencies on providing needed assistance to the affected residents.

“This is to cushion the adverse effects of the flood as I have donated N4,000,000 and 500 cartons of noodles to the victims.

“I assure the victims of the required support from government as we would all work together to salvage the terrible situation.

“My brother, the state Commissioner for Infrastructure, Mr Obasi Abara, also donated N4,000,000 to the victims,” he said.

He noted that he spoke with the director-general of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) immediately the incident occurred and plans were underway for more interventions.

“I have also spoken to Gov. Francis Nwifuru and he assured me of support from the government and other stakeholders,” he said.

Regina Ogudu, a widow, said her house was totally destroyed by the flood and she had no place to sleep.

“My only son was killed during the community’s conflict with neighbouring Ishiagu and this devastation has added to my woes,” she lamented.

Ireme Abia, another victim, said the flood swept away his farm crops and destroyed properties belonging to his family.

“I am presently living at the mercy of relations as it seems like a dream to watch efforts of several years vanish in a minute,” he said.
