The wife of the Ebonyi governor, Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring safe delivery for every pregnant woman in the state.

She made the pledge on Thursday during a visit to St Patrick’s Hospital, Mile Four, Abakaliki, where she welcomed twin male babies born on New Year’s Day.

The twin babies were born at 12:/22 a.m. through caesarean section (CS) and weighed 2.3kg and 2.1kg at birth.

Congratulating the mothers on their safe deliveries, Mrs Nwifuru wished them sound health and prayed for the well-being of their babies.

She also pledged that BERWO, her pet project, in partnership with the state government, would continue to champion the cause of mother and child.

She presented a cash gift and other items to Cynthia Igwe, the mother of the first babies and others born shortly after them.

The medical superintendent of the hospital, Kenneth Nwafor and Ekaete Ehop, the consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, thanked the governor’s wife “for the continued support and kind gestures given to patients in the hospital.”

The mother of the twin babies, who said it was her fifth pregnancy, described the governor’s wife’s visit as a pleasant surprise, adding that the gifts would go a long way in taking good care of the newborns.
