The Ebonyi Ministry of Power and Energy has advised residents occupying or conducting activities along the designated electricity transmission right-of-way to vacate for their own safety.
Peter Oge–Ali, the ministry’s commissioner, gave the advice in a statement on Tuesday.
Mr Oge-Ali noted that the Transmission Company of Nigeria was currently constructing a 132KV Power Transmission Line from Mile 50, Abakaliki, to Amasiri, Afikpo LGA of Ebonyi.
The commissioner explained that the project has reached an advanced stage, with conductor stringing ongoing and all transmission towers already erected along the route.
”Consequently, all persons: farmers, developers, among others, occupying or carrying out activities within the designated transmission line’s right-of-way are strongly advised to vacate. This is necessary to safeguard lives, property, and to ensure the successful completion of this critical power infrastructural project,” he said.
He noted that the affected LGAs include Ebonyi, Ezza North, Ezza South, Onicha and Afikpo.
“All traditional rulers, town union presidents and village heads within the affected communities are hereby urged to mobilise their people and ensure full cooperation with the project team.
”This project is of immense importance to the socio-economic development of Ebonyi as it will contribute significantly to improving power supply.
