Ebonyi NDC deputy chairman, secretary, others defect to PDP

The deputy chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Okechukwu Idenyi, the secretary and several other members of the party have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 polls.
The defectors said their decision was part of a commitment to strengthen the opposition and promote inclusive governance, not only in Ebonyi but across Nigeria.
Chukwuma Igwe, chairman of the PDP, received the defectors at its political rally on Saturday in Isu community, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Mr Igwe described the defections as a major boost to the PDP’s growing influence in the state.
He expressed confidence that the new entrants’ experience and political reach would strengthen its structure and enhance its preparations for the forthcoming elections.
“We assure the defectors of equal opportunities within the party. We urge you to work collectively with existing members to advance the party’s objectives and provide a credible alternative for the people of Ebonyi in 2027,” he said.
Solomon Adum, former NDC secretary, said their decision followed extensive consultations with their supporters.
According to Mr Adum, the decision is driven by their confidence in the PDP’s vision for democratic governance, unity, and sustainable development.
“We pledge to work with the leadership of the PDP to expand the party’s grassroots support ahead of future political activities.
“We are committed to promoting peace, internal democracy and issue-based politics,” he said.
Felix Igboke, the PDP’s flag-bearer for the House of Representatives for the Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo federal constituency, described the party as a moving train.
“PDP is the party that has built sustainability. The 2027 election is the time to work together to ensure that we win.
“I welcome all the defectors to the party, and I believe we will win, come 2027. Our party is a moving train,” Mr Igboke said.
