On Tuesday, the Ebonyi council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists gets a new executive with the re-election of the incumbent chairman, Samson Nwafor.
Mr Nwafor was returned unopposed for a three-year term in office. He was sworn in alongside six others (including the vice-chairman, Moses Irogu; secretary, Chinaza John; treasurer, Juliana Okoro, who were also returned unopposed).
In his acceptance remarks, the chairman thanked the electoral committee led by Tony Ukwuome for conducting a credible election in line with NUJ guidelines.
He promised to continue to promote, protect and defend the integrity of the state NUJ council and Nigeria.
The chairman thanked the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru for its continued support of the Union, especially for giving members of the Union free hands to perform their constitutional duties without any form of harassment and intimidation.
Ezenwa Adiuku, acting South-East vice-chairman of the NUJ, commended the election processes and urged the new executive to work according to the NUJ guiding principle.
