Edo 2020: 8-month pregnant athlete wins first gold for Lagos in Taekwondo
Aminat Idrees who is eight months pregnant has won a gold medal in the Taekwondo event on Monday at the on-going National Sports Festival (NSF) in Edo State.
This was disclosed in the NSF Twitter handle after the event, adding that Aminat achieved the feat alongside her male teammate, Arowora Roqeeb in the Mixed Poomsae category in Taekwondo.
According to the tweet, the heavily pregnant Aminat, who is currently one of the leading medalists at the festival, also won silver in the female team Poomsae category as well as an individual bronze in the same category.
The tweet read: “An inspiring outing by heavily pregnant Aminat Idrees who won a gold medal for Lagos at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Benin, Edo State. Aminat Idrees who is 8 months pregnant won gold in the Mixed Poomsae category in Taekwondo alongside her male counterpart, Arowora Roqeeb.”
“This is Team Lagos’ first gold at Edo 2020. She also won Silver in the female team Poomsae category and an individual bronze in the same category making her one of the leading medalists at the festival,” it added.
The sports festival which had been hit with several postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be declared open on Tuesday by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.
The 20th edition of the festival which commenced on Sunday will come to a close on the 14th of April.
