The acting chairman of Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo, Eric Osawaru, has presented a N13.01 billion 2026 budget estimate to the legislative council.

The budget was presented on Tuesday at the council secretariat in Idugbo, Benin.

Mr Osawaru said 2026 would focus on people-centred governance and real community impact, aligned with Gov. Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda.

He said the allocation reflected a commitment to governance that touches lives, creates opportunities, and strengthens communities across Ikpoba-Okha.

According to him, the proposal, tagged ‘Budget of Development’, aims to bring governance closer to the people through investments in jobs, businesses, roads, schools, healthcare, and social support.

According to him, the N13.01 billion budget prioritises development over bureaucracy to ensure equitable growth across all wards.

Capital expenditure totals N6.67 billion, representing 51.26 per cent, while recurrent spending stands at N6.34 billion, or 48.74 per cent.

The economic sector received the highest capital allocation of N3.69 billion to stimulate businesses, empower artisans, and create jobs for youths and women.

The social sector was allocated N1.73 billion to improve schools, strengthen primary healthcare, and support vulnerable groups.

Mr Osawaru said funds were also earmarked to enhance governance efficiency and promote peace and justice at the grassroots.

“This budget is rooted in fiscal discipline, accountability, and people-oriented priorities,” Mr Osawaru said.

He added that the administration was committed to converting public resources into visible improvements in residents’ daily lives.

Leader of the legislative council, Hannah Enogie-Inem, welcomed the proposal and promised prompt consideration for early passage and implementation.

Community leaders, traditional rulers, and stakeholders praised the budget’s grassroots focus and pro-people outlook.
