Edo IRS unveils 14 new centres for TIN registration, launches USSD code

The Edo Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), on Thursday, unveiled 14 new centres for Tax Identification Number (TIN) registration across the state as part of efforts to decentralise the process.
Courage Eboigbe, head of corporate communications of the service, announced the new centres in a statement on Thursday in Benin.
Mr Eboigbe also announced the introduction of a USSD code to simplify tax compliance ahead of the nationwide implementation of the new Nigerian Tax Acts on January 1, 2026.
According to him, the Oladele Bankole-Balogun-led–led board approved the centres across the state to bring services of the revenue agency closer to taxpayers.
He said the new centres were located in all zonal tax offices across the state, including Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Uhunmwonde, Ovia North-East and Orhionmwon.
They are also situated in Ovia South-West, Esan West, Esan North-East, Akoko-Edo, Etsako East, Etsako West and Owan East.
Mr Eboigbe described the move as a strategic effort to “seamlessly facilitate tax compliance by taxpayers.”
He added that the revenue agency, in collaboration with the Joint Tax Board (JTB), had also rolled out the USSD code *668# to enable instant TIN registration, verification and certificate generation via mobile phones.
According to him, the service further unveiled a Diaspora TIN platform, now active at 40 locations across 13 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas.
“These initiatives ensure that citizens and potential taxpayers, especially those in rural and diaspora communities, can obtain their Tax IDs conveniently,” he said.
The EIRS spokesperson noted that the combined reforms would “promote inclusivity, ensure compliance, broaden participation in the formal economy, and enhance the ease of doing business.
“Taxpayers can confirm existing TINs or register anew by visiting the JTB portal at tin.jtb.gov.ng, while further enquiries are to be directed to 0813 097 0146 or info@eirs.gov.ng.”
