Edo, Lagos secure wins as National Women’s Cricket Championship begins

Edo and Lagos secured vital wins on the first day of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) Women’s Championship in Abuja.
The highly anticipated tournament, which started on Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, saw Edo beat Kaduna State by 61 runs in the first game of the day.
Kaduna won the toss and opted to field but could not do much to restrict the batting prowess of the Edo side.
Edo scored 115 runs for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
While trying to chase the target, Kaduna could only settle for 54 runs as they lost all 10 wickets in 16.3 overs, with Edo claiming a 61-run win.
The day’s second game ended in favour of the Lagos State side, as they claimed a 69-run win against Anambra.
Anambra won the toss and opted to field, but Lagos showed sheer dominance with the bat, scoring 118 for the loss of two in 20 overs.
Anambra, in reply, could only manage 49 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs, giving Lagos the win with 69 runs.
Anambra, Edo, Kogi, Ekiti, Gombe, Lagos, Akwa Ibom and Kaduna are currently participating in the tournament meant to develop women’s cricket in the country.
The tournament is scheduled to end on Sunday.
