Edo trio arrested for stealing multimillion-naira human hairs in Benin City
The Edo State Security Corps has arrested and handed over to the police three suspects involved in the armed theft at Priceless Strands Luxury Hairs in Benin City.
At the time of their arrest, 35 of the over 90 bundles of human hair worth millions of naira that were stolen were recovered from the suspects, who conducted their criminal operation with a minibus painted in the state’s approved colour.
During interrogation, an alleged accomplice said that it was the first time the suspects hired him to drive them in the vehicle to and fro, but denied knowledge of their intention to commit an armed robbery.
The suspects’ driver said, “I don’t know if they’ve done this kind of thing before, but they told me that I have a bus. There’s somewhere they want to go; that I should take them there and back. I’ve never carried the suspects before. It’s my first time.”
The victim, who thanked the security operatives for their prompt intervention, stated, “My shop was robbed, and ever since then, we’ve been on the lookout for the criminals, two guys and a lady, for which we just got to hear that the Edo State vigilante has found them.
“We’re talking about a whole lot of wigs worth about millions of naira was stolen. We’re in the recovery process, at least, we’ve seen a few of the wigs and that’s a very good step to seeing the rest of them.”
Acting corps commander of the security outfit, Richard Balogun, said, “The complainant, when the thieves came, was able to capture them through CCTV. So, our men, through technical intelligence, were able to arrest the thieves, including a lady. So, they’ve all been handed over to the police.”
The victim, on her Instagram handle @official.pricelessstrands, on Saturday, said one of the male suspects on Friday accompanied the woman to her shop pretending to be customers by enquiring about making her hair, only for them to return the next day to commit the robbery.
One of the suspects was seen in the video pointing a firearm at workers in the shop, before locking them in an inner room of the shop. He then joined his partner in crime to pack the human hairs into bags.
