Educationist urges parents to create quality time for children
An educationist in Ogun State, Kazeem Aina, has advised parents to spend quality time with their children to ensure they become better citizens in society.
Mr Aina, also a parent, gave the advice at this year’s Graduation and Prize-giving Day ceremony of Adedokun International Schools at Gasoline, Ijoko, Ota, on Wednesday.
He said that family time was essential for the “all-round development and growth of our children,” adding that “there is no better way than spending time with one’s family.’’
“Quality time is vital for a child’s emotional and social development, socially and mentally, as it fosters a secure attachment, enhances communication skills and boosts self-esteem. There is no better way to instil positive values and strengthen family bonds than by intentionally creating moments of connection and care,” Mr Aina said.
According to him, quality time is not just about being physically present but emotionally available, engaging in meaningful conversation, activities and expression of love.
“A child’s upbringing plays a crucial role in shaping his character, values, and future in today’s fast-paced world, where distractions and busy schedules are common,” Mr Aina said.
He said that children who do not receive quality time from parents have low esteem and could be easily lured into crime, substance abuse and cultism.
In a remark, the proprietress of the school, Romoke Adedokun, advised the graduating pupils and students “not to deviate from the values received from the school.”
Ms Adedokun further implored them to continue to study diligently, saying, “Success is not final; failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.”
She commended parents and guardians for their support of the school during the session and over the years.
She reiterated the school’s commitment to continue to nurture the students holistically, physically, morally, academically, and spiritually “because we believe they are the future of this great nation.”
Eighty four pupils graduated, comprising 34 nursery, 21 primary and 29 JSS 3.
