EFCC arrests ex-Gov. Yari, Finex Professional MD Anthony Yaro
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it arrested former Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara over his involvement in the N84 billion fraud allegation against the former Accountant General of the Federation Ahmed Idris.
Mr Yari on Saturday picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Zamfara West senate seat.An authoritative source in the EFCC disclosed this on Sunday in Abuja. The source said the chairman and managing director of Finex Professional, Anthony Yaro, was also arrested alongside the former Zamfara governor. He said the duo were arrested on Sunday over their alleged role in the fraud allegation.
According to the source, Mr Yari, picked up at about 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, allegedly benefited N22 billion from the fund through Finex Professional.
The source said the amount was paid to an individual, only identified as Akindele by the former AGF, from the N84 billion through Finex Professional.
The former AGF was arrested on May 16 over alleged diversion and laundering of N84 billion.
Mr Idris was accused of pilfering the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates and were laundered through real estate investments in Kano and Abuja.
