EFL Cup: Welbeck, Palmer fire brace as Chelsea beat Leeds 6-3

Chelsea progressed to the fourth round of the EFL Cup with a 6-3 win against Leeds on Wednesday. Cole Palmer and Danny Welbeck scored a brace each at Stamford Bridge.
Leeds shocked the Blues with an early lead from a set-piece delivery from Harry Wilson, which allowed Tarik Muharemovic to head home his first goal for the club.
The Blues failed to score in the first half despite several goal-scoring opportunities.
Xabi Alonso made some changes after the break, introducing Morgan Rogers, Palmer, and Reece James to switch up the game.
The Whites, however, doubled their advantage as Brenden Aaronson made it 2-0 minutes into the second half off an effort from Lukas Nmecha.
Chelsea fought back as Palmer converted a penalty after a challenge by Daniel James on Pep Chavarria.
The Blues completed the comeback as Rogers sent out a perfect pass to Palmer, doubling the hosts’ advantage in minutes.
Rogers picked out Pedro Neto in the 60th minute to make it 3-2, and in the 65th minute the English international sealed a hat-trick of assists in barely ten minutes, allowing Welbeck to increase the advantage.
Leeds did not stop their fight as Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave his side a lifeline as Noah Okafor set up the centre forward to make it 4-3.
Chelsea added another goal with Valentin Barco netting his first goal for his side in the 80th minute.
Barco assisted as Welbeck scored the Blues’ last goal of the night, as the English international sealed the victory for the Blues.
