Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday discussed efforts to consolidate the Gaza ceasefire and advance a political settlement.

Egypt’s presidency disclosed this in a statement following their meeting in Cairo.

Mr Al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue.

He said the issue would remain central to the region until an agreement guaranteeing the rights of Palestinians was reached.

The Egyptian president said Egypt would continue working with mediators to implement the agreement reached at the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025 to end the war in Gaza.

He urged parties to uphold the agreement by ending escalation, facilitating humanitarian aid and creating conditions for early recovery and reconstruction.

Mr Al-Sisi also reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any displacement of Palestinians or attempts to undermine their national cause.

He expressed support for the Palestinian National Authority and efforts to achieve consensus among Palestinian factions.

Also, Mr Abbas commended Egypt’s efforts to safeguard Palestinian rights and advance a just and sustainable settlement.

He expressed appreciation for Egypt’s longstanding role as a key supporter and mediator in efforts to resolve the Palestinian issue.

Mr Abbas also briefed Mr Al-Sisi on the latest developments, including the deteriorating situation in the West Bank, which he attributed to Israeli occupation policies.

The statement noted that the two presidents agreed to intensify political coordination and consultations at all levels over developments in the Palestinian territories and the wider region.
