The Jahun Local Government Council of Jigawa says it has donated clothes and an undisclosed amount of money to the 179 imams and traditional rulers in the area.

The special assistant to the council chairman on publicity, Ismai’l Bature, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

Mr Bature said the gesture was meant to support the beneficiaries during the upcoming Eid-el Fitr.

“In a gesture of goodwill, the chairman, Mr Jamilu Danmalam, has distributed sallah gifts to 179 imams and district heads and traditional rulers in the area,” he said.

The statement added that the chairman used the occasion to restate his administration’s commitment to supporting the less privileged in society, including people with disabilities, orphans, and the elderly.

The aide quoted Mr Danmalam as saying the distribution of the sallah gift was part of his administration’s efforts to promote unity and harmony among the people of the area.

He said the chairman also appreciated the support and cooperation of the religious and traditional rulers.

“Mallam Yahusa Gabari, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, praised the chairman for his kindness and generosity,” the statement added.

Mr Gabari was also quoted as describing the chairman as the first to show concern for the welfare of traditional and religious leaders.
