Eid-el-Fitr: NSCDC deploys 2,000 personnel in Lagos

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos state command, has deployed 2,000 personnel to ensure safety of lives and property during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration in the state.
The Eid-el-Fitr, also called “Festival of Breaking the Fast”, is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide.
It marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.
The NSCDC Lagos state commandant, Adedotun Keshinro, said the special deployment of personnel followed the federal government’s declaration of Tuesday and Wednesday as public holidays to mark the celebration.
Mr Keshinro said this in a statement on Monday, signed by the NSCDC Lagos command’s spokesperson, DSC Oluwaseun Abolurin.
“The officers and men deployed for this assignment were drawn from various departments, units, divisions and area commands of the command across the state.
“This is to ensure lives and property are safe and secure while the celebration progresses.
“The critical national assets and infrastructure situated at strategic points, recreational centres, strategic facilities and spaces are amongst many others that will be focused on before, during and after the festivity,” he said.
Mr Keshinro felicitated the Muslim faithful and sued for peace, love and unity among citizens in the state.
The commandant warned all criminal elements, particularly vandals, to desist from their evil and disastrous acts of economic sabotage or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.
“We will not go to bed during the holidays but rather remain fervent and committed to the corps’ mandates and statutory functions, as provided by the law.
“This is to make the celebration a smooth and peaceful one for all,” Mr Keshinro said.
