Ekiti 2022: PDP sets up appeal panel to hear complaints from primary election

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has set up an appeal panel to resolve complaints arising from the party’s governorship primary election in Ekiti.
In a statement signed by the PDP’s organising secretary, Umar Bature, on Thursday, the national leadership of the party disclosed that the panel consisting of 25 members will be headed by its national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
“The NWC of the @OfficialPDPNig has constituted the Gubernatorial Appeal Panel to consider appeals arising from the conduct of the governorship primary election for the upcoming 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State,” the statement read.
Recall that Biodun Olujimi, one of the party’s aspirants for the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti, pulled out of the primary election that saw Bisi Kolawole, the anointed candidate of former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti emerge as flagbearer.
Ms Olujimi who said she did not step down for any aspirant alleged irregularities in the build-up to the primary election that was held on Wednesday.
She claimed that the delegates’ list brought by the electoral body had been allegedly doctored in favour of a camp in the party.
Mr Kolawole, a former member of the Ekiti House of Assembly, polled 671 of the 1,185 votes to emerge the party’s candidate in the primary held at the Eagle Event Centre, Ikere Road, Ado-Ekiti.
He defeated Segun Oni, a former state governor and also an aspirant, who polled 330 votes in the election.
Another aspirant, Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, a former deputy governor to Mr Fayose and governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2018 election in the state, came third with 93 votes.
Others were Adewale Aribisala (56 votes), Kayode Adaramodu (10), Deji Ogunsakin (six votes), Biodun Olujimi, who had earlier pulled out of the race, scored two votes, and Kemi Adewumi had only one vote.
