Ekiti court remands three men over ties to ‘Aiye’ confraternity

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court has remanded one Bamidele Ogundola, 36, Thomas Ayomide, 22, and Anjorin Ayodeji, 21, over alleged membership of a secret cult.
The Chief Magistrate, Franca Olaiya, who did not take the defendants’ pleas, ordered their remand in the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
She adjourned the case till June 21 for mention.
The prosecutor, Sodiq Adeniyi, had told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on May 19, at about 10:00 a.m. at Ikole-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendants were found to be members of the Black Axe “Aiye” confraternity.
Mr Adeniyi said the offence contravenes Section 41 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants to a correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
