A 26-year-old man, Awe Olamilekan, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday over the alleged theft of aluminium window frames valued at N300,000.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of housebreaking and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Ayodeji Aina, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 7 at about 12:30 p.m. at Ilupeju Avenue in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant broke into the dwelling house of one Adewumi Kolawole and stole aluminium window glass frames valued at N300,000.

Mr Aina said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 322 and 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Olatomiwa Daramola, granted the defendant bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Mr Daramola said that the surety must provide three years’ evidence of tax payment to the Ekiti government.

He thereafter adjourned the case until September 10 for hearing.
