Ekiti: Two men in court for theft, assault

Two men, Rafiu Jamiu, 27 and Adeniyi Oluwaseun, 21, were arraigned before a chief magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti on Friday over alleged stealing and assault.
The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a two-count charge of stealing and assault.
The prosecutor, ASP Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendants and others at large committed the offence on December 4 between 9:00 p.m. in Ijero-Ekiti.
Mr Leramo alleged that the defendants and others at large stole an Infinix phone valued at N73,000 belonging to Miracle Samuel.
He said the defendants and others at large also stole a Tecno phone valued at N50,000 and an Itel phone valued at N7,000 belonging to Oladeji Christianah.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendants and others at large assaulted Oladeji Christianah, Miracle Samuel and Egunjobi Victoria.
According to him, the offences contravened sections 302(1)(a) and 186 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
Counsel to the defendants, Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant them bail, saying that they would not jump bail.
The chief magistrate, Saka Afunso, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each in a like sum.
He adjourned the case until January 12 for a hearing.
