#EkitiDecides2026: We are ready to secure governorship election, police say
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) said it will adopt a proactive security strategy to ensure a peaceful governorship election in Ekiti State on Saturday.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, had deployed adequate personnel to secure polling units, collation centres and other designated election facilities across the state.
“We are going to provide physical security as well as the security of information and security of events.
“It is an enormous task. Our mandate neutrality comes to mind at a time like this to ensure that our loyalty, allegiance is to the constitution of the Federal Republic and not to any political faction,” Mr Placid said.
Mr Placid said the media also had a critical role to play in collaboration with the police and other security agencies to ensure a credible election.
He added that the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security had put in place a unified command structure for all security agencies participating in the election.
“We have also made arrangements for three concentric layer security zones and on the election day in order to have a successful election. There would be a restriction of movement of persons,” he said.
He urged residents of Ekiti State to come out peacefully and exercise their civic rights, assuring them that the Nigeria Police Force would provide a level playing field for all voters.
