EKSUTH probes alleged removal of patient’s kidney during surgery

The management of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has constituted a seven-man panel to investigate an allegation by a patient, Joshua Afolayan, regarding the removal of his kidney during a medical procedure at the hospital.
A statement by the Head of Corporate Affairs, EKSUTH, Rolake Adewumi, on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti, said the hospital’s Board Chairman, Adedamola Dada, announced the inauguration of the panel.
According to the statement, Francis Faduyile, an anatomic pathologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, is the committee chairman.
Other members include Patrick Adegun of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti; Henry Abiyere, Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido–Ekiti; and Adebola Adeniyi–Agbaje, General Manager, Progress F.M., Ado-Ekiti.
The panel also has Emmanuel Aribasoye, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Ekiti State branch; Babatunde Akindele, the Elemo of Ado–Ekiti; and Adebayo Titilayo, the Legal Adviser to Ekiti Ministry of Health, who will serve as Secretary.
According to the statement, the panel has 10 days to submit its report.
“The hospital management reassure the public that no stone will be left unturned to determine the issues involved in this matter,” it stated.
The statement noted that members of the panel were independent and responsible members of society that would exhibit fairness and justice.
It urged the affected parties to cooperate with the panel.
