El-Rufai cries out over prolonged detention after 212 days

Nasir El-Rufai, a former Kaduna governor, has cried out over his prolonged detention as he marks 212 days since he was arrested and detained.
In a post on his official social media pages on Wednesday, Mr El-Rufai said, “Today Exactly 212 Days @elrufai in Detention,” adding, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to Justice everywhere. Injustice anywhere is a threat to Democracy everywhere.”
A flyer featuring Mr El-Rufai dressed in a white suit, black shirt and white hat, posted on his Facebook page, read: “Detention must never become punishment before judgement. Due process is not privilege.”
Mr El-Rufai has remained in detention since February 18, following a probe by the anti-graft agency into alleged N432 billion money laundering based on a petition by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has said it is keeping the former Kaduna governor in detention based on a court remand order.
Although he was briefly released in March to attend the burial of his late mother, Mr El-Rufai had, in an interview, admitted to tapping the telephone of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
