El-Rufai tags Trump, Macron in detention post
Former Governor Nasir El-Rufai has tagged Presidents Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron in his latest detention post.
The former Kaduna governor and major opposition figure also tagged the United Nations and media outlets like the BBC and CNN.
“EL-RUFAI DETENTION UPDATE: Today, exactly 256 days @elrufai in detention. Human rights not a favour, a fair trial is not an act of mercy. It is not a privilege. It is a fundamental human right,” the post stated.
Mr El-Rufai’s appeal to the international community followed the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, dismissing his no-case submission on Monday over his alleged phone-tapping of Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser.
Mr El-Rufai, who is also being probed by the anti-graft agency over N432 billion money laundering based on a petition by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, has remained in detention since February 18, though briefly released for his mother’s funeral in March.
