El-Rufai’s son assures Tinubu of defeat in 2027

Bashir El-Rufai, son of a former governor of Kaduna State and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Nasir El-Rufai, has said incumbent President Bola Tinubu will lose re-election in 2027.
Amid his father’s fallout with the current Mr Tinubu’s regime following the failure of the Senate to confirm his ministerial nomination, citing security reports from the State Security Service, Bashir urged Nigerians to remain patient ahead of the next poll. .
“Nobody is too big to be elected out of office by the people. It will happen & wallahi nothing will happen. So forget all these intimidations flying up and down. Let us be patient,” Bashir said in a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday.
Speaking further, Bashir said the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank which the current regime has based some of its policies on including the removal of fuel subsidy and the free flow rate of naira, would not save Mr Tinubu if he seeks re-election.
“Even IMF & World Bank no go save una that time. Political strategist una,” he added, stating “that one na for Lagos,” a phrase that referenced Mr Tinubu’s political influence in Lagos State where he served eight years as governor and retained major say in choosing his predecessors.
Following the failure of the Senate to confirm his ministerial nomination, Mr El-Rufai withdrew his interest in the appointment, saying “If President Tinubu really wanted him in his cabinet, he would have made it possible for him to get the nod of the Senate” and since his relationship with the current administration has since gone sour.
