The police command in Anambra has said that Ihiala, Ogbaru, and Ayamelum LGAs were calm during Saturday’s governorship election.

The command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

“The Anambra state police command today reports that the governorship election is going on peacefully in Ihiala, Ogbaru, Ayamelum LGAs, and other parts of the state, with strong and coordinated security presence in the areas.

“The police have also maintained a strong security presence with other security agencies and continued to dominate all strategic locations to ensure a secure and orderly voting atmosphere in the state,” he said.

According to Mr Ikenga, police operatives and personnel from sister security agencies are on the ground across polling centres, collation zones, and waterways.

Mr Ikenga also said that border communities were manned to deter any form of disruption and to provide confidence for voters to exercise their civic responsibility without fear or intimidation.

He said that the command maintains strict neutrality and assures all political actors and citizens that it remains committed to protecting the integrity of the electoral process.

The police spokesman urged the public to continue to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with lawful instructions from security personnel on duty.
