Elele–Omoku road ready for inauguration in May, Fubara pledges

Governor Siminalayi Fubara says the 33.5-kilometre Elele–Umudioga–Egbeda–Ubimini–Ikiri–Omoku Road will be inaugurated in May to end years of travel hardship on the road.
The governor disclosed this during his inspection tour of the dual carriageway spanning Ikwerre, Emohua and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGAs of Rivers, on Wednesday.
He said the project was about 90 per cent complete and that, upon inauguration, it would also reduce insecurity along the corridor.
He described the road as critical to unlocking the economic potential of Omoku, popularly known as the state’s ‘Gas City’.
Mr Fubara said, “From my assessment, about 90 per cent of the job is already done, and what is remaining will be delivered before the end of April.”
The Rivers governor added that the project was a signature achievement of his administration aimed at expanding the road network and boosting economic activities.
Mr Fubara highlighted the security benefits of the road, recalling past incidents of kidnappings and other crimes along the route.
“For those who live and do business in Port Harcourt and Rivers state, you know this road used to be a death trap.
“With what we have done, those issues will become history as security agencies can now easily access the area,” he said.
The governor commended the contractor for the quality and pace of work, particularly on the bridge component. He expressed confidence that the remaining work would be completed on schedule.
