The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says several programmes designed for the 2025 Ember Months campaign were aimed at ensuring that the highways were safe and secure for road users.

The corps marshal, Shehu Mohammed, stated this during the 12th FRSC Valedictory Lecture Series on Tuesday in Abuja.

The lecture series was in honour of Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM) in charge of training, Chidiebere Nkwonta, who retired from service after attaining the age of 60.

Mr Mohammed said the corps would sustain the ongoing reforms to align with global road safety best practices across the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He emphasised this would be through the use of various technologies as tools to enhance operations in the country.

“The corps will not leave any stone unturned in checking the excesses of motorists and ensuring effective traffic management before, during, and after the Ember Months special operations,” he maintained.

The FRSC boss, however, commended the contributions of the retired DCM Nkwonta to the growth of FRSC.

Mr Mohammed urged those in service to emulate the outstanding performance of the officer, adding that the corps would build on the legacy of the retired senior officer.

In his lecture titled “How to navigate the Vagaries of the Nigerian Public Service: My Experience, A Good Teacher,” Nkwonta appealed to the younger officers to carry out any assignment entrusted into their hands diligently.

Mr Nkwonta eulogised some of the retired senior officers for providing good mentorship, adding that it equipped him to become a respected officer during his 35 years of meritorious service.

The retired DCM pledged to make himself available at any time he is called upon.

Former Minister of Information, Frank Nweke, and others who spoke at the occasion praised the family of the retired officer for their total support, which made the retired DCM an outstanding officer.
