Emefiele left hanging as court adjourns suit to May 23

The fate of Central Bank governor Godwin Emefiele remain uncertain as the Abuja Division of Federal High Court on Thursday failed to rule on a suit seeking an order allow the apex bank chief run for presidency while simultaneously supervising the nation’s financial institutions’ regulator.
Mr Emefiele had rushed to court on Monday to secure an ex-parte ruling to allow him participate in the contest for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC). But the court turned him down, asking relevant parties to be served and show cause on why the motions should not be granted.
At the resumed hearing of the matter on Thursday, the Court granted the applications of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Save our Fathers Land group seeking to be joined in the suit.
Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami opposed the application for joiners.
“The two motions for joinder, I hereby grant it. PDP is hereby joined in this application as the 3rd defendant, John Aikpokpo and Olukunle Edun of Save Nigeria our Fathers’ Land as 4th and 5th defendants,” Justice Ahmed Mohammed ruled after several hours of arguments from concerned parties.
The court adjourned till May 23 for continuation of the matter.
Meanwhile, the federal government, through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has ordered Mr Emefiele and other top government officials seeking elective offices in the 2023 general elections to quit office and hand over to the next most senior official in their offices.
