As protests against hardship in the country gather momentum, a combined team of security agencies in Ondo state are set to begin a ‘show of force’ as protesters continue to mobilise for support ahead of August 1.

The police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, gave the hint on Monday in a terse release to journalists in Akure, the state capital.

“Good evening everyone, there is going to be a joint operation show of force with all security agencies and a Joint Press Conference tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Police Headquarters,” the message read.

Although the details of the activities were not contained in the message, it came a day after the police command ordered protesters in the state to submit the details of their demonstration by indicating the venue of convergence to avoid being hijacked by hoodlums.

The state police command said its action was in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, noting that the details would also allow security agents to arrange the required security in the identified areas of the protest before the main day.

Peoples Gazette reports that some Nigerians with the hashtag #EndBadGovernance have fixed August 1-10 for a nationwide protest to demand economic and political reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s watch.
