#EndSARS: I am waiting for Sanwo-Olu, others’ actions on panel report, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says his regime is waiting for pronouncements from state governments which set up panels to probe police brutality in the country.
“So many state governments are involved, and have given different terms of reference to the probe panels,” Mr Buhari said.
“We at the federal have to wait for the steps taken by the states, and we have to allow the system to work. We can’t impose ideas on them. Federal government has to wait for the reaction of the states.”
Mr Buhari disclosed this at State House, Abuja, while receiving in audience Mr Antony Blinken, United States Secretary of State on Thursday.
The Lagos judicial panel in its report says Nigerians military and police brutalised and killed protesters at Lekki Tollgate on October 20, debunking pro-government propaganda that nobody was killed during the historic protest against police brutality.
The United States had welcomed the report of the ‘Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses & Lekki Tollgate Incident’, which concluded that the Nigerian Army massacred unarmed and peaceful protesters at the Lekki facility.
“The United States welcomes the conclusion of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry with the transmission of its final report,” the U.S. said in a statement signed by the Public Affairs Section, U.S. Consulate General.
The report also said governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu invited the Nigerian soldiers who massacred unarmed and peaceful #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate.
While recommending that soldiers deployed to the Tollgate be dismissed from service, the panel added that Mr Buhari tender public apology to Nigerian youths while declaring October 20 a national remembrance day for those killed during historic #EndSARS protest.
