Engineers advocate innovation to tackle Nigeria’s insecurity

Ali Rabiu, president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), has stressed the need for engineers to adopt innovative, technology-driven approaches to address Nigeria’s insecurity.
Mr Rabiu made the call at the inauguration of the 17th national chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechB), Babagana Tella, in Abuja on Monday.
The NSE president urged Nigerian engineers to deploy such technologies to support the government’s efforts to address the country’s persistent insecurity.
“Technological engineering, particularly and indeed the engineering discipline as a whole, is central to industrial growth, infrastructure resilience, and national security systems.
“Insecurity should be treated as a complex system requiring multidisciplinary engineering solutions.
“These include data analytics, surveillance technologies, local manufacturing capacity, logistics optimisation and sustainable infrastructure development,” Mr Rabiu stated.
According to Mr Rabiu, engineering is fundamentally about problem-solving, and its engagement must be rooted in logic, structure, modelling, and evidence-based reasoning to deliver sustainable solutions to complex security challenges.
