Enugu NMA mourns Neri Picardo who slumps, dies while attending to patient

The Nigerian Medical Association has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of gastroenterologist Neri Picardo.
NMA Enugu chapter said the physician collapsed and died while seeing a patient at his clinic at the Niger Foundation, despite several efforts to resuscitate him.
In a statement on Thursday, the medical association said, “The association is grappling with the sudden loss of an exceptional physician and a highly valued medical elder.”
It noted that Mr Picardo dedicated his life to serving God and humanity.
“Until his sudden exit, the late Prof. Neri Picardo was an exceptional and high-profile physician and a redoubtable scholar.
“A devout Catholic and Papal Knight of St. Gregory, his life and work were exemplary. His selfless service to humanity and outstanding contributions to medicine and society were unparalleled.
“Late Prof. Picardo’s legacy reflects a rare combination of professional excellence and spiritual commitment, inspiring all who knew him,” said NMA.
