The police in Enugu have arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition in Enugu East Local Government Area of the state.

This was disclosed on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, who stated that suspected kidnappers fled during a gun battle with security operatives.

“On 1st May 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., Police Operatives attached to the Unity Division, in collaboration with Forest Guards, while on a crime-prevention bush-combing operation in Enugu East Local Government Area, encountered suspected armed kidnappers,” he said.

According to him, the suspects engaged the joint security team in a gun duel but fled with varying degrees of gunshot wounds due to the operatives’ superior firepower.

“One AK-47 magazine loaded with thirty (30) rounds of live ammunition and one winter cap were recovered, while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects,” Mr Ndukwe said.

In a separate operation on 28th April 2026, at about 9:20 a.m., the command acted on credible intelligence and arrested a 27-year old man.

“Police Operatives attached to the Central Police Station (CPS), acting on credible and timely intelligence, arrested one Odume Junior, aged 27, at the Mgbemena/Akwata Sub-Market area of Ogbete Main Market,” he added.

He stated that Mr Junior was linked to armed robbery activities, and that a locally made cut-to-size gun loaded with one live cartridge was recovered from him.

Other items allegedly found in his possession included substances suspected to be methamphetamine, locally known as “Mkpụrụ Mmịrị.”

Mr Ndukwe added that investigations were ongoing to arrest the fleeing accomplices, after which the suspect would be arraigned in court.
