Envoy praises Nigeria-Colombia ties reflected in Burna, Shakira’s ‘Daidai’ song

The Colombian consul to Nigeria, Maricel Cantillo, commended the collaboration between Bruno Boy and Shakira on the song ‘Daidai’, describing it as a reflection of the growing ties between Nigeria and Colombia.
Ms Cantillo spoke during Nigeria’s Annual Diplomatic Cultural Festival 2026 in Abuja, where Colombia opened its flag display with a song.
She said the song was deliberately selected for the presentation, describing it as a symbol of the collaborative spirit that could strengthen relations between the two countries.
“The choice was deliberate. The decision to open with a song that fuses Colombian and Nigerian artistry captured the spirit of the day perfectly,” she said.
According to Ms Cantillo, the moment also reflected the nature of Colombians as happy, welcoming, and vibrant people whose warmth connects naturally with Nigerians.
She noted that the song was originally produced for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and was launched during the tournament’s opening ceremony in the United States.
The festival, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was held on Saturday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, with the theme ‘Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Global Cultures in Nigeria’.
Dotun Israel, head of the organising committee, said Nigeria remained committed to promoting diversity and strengthening international relations through cultural engagement.
He said the event was designed to bring together global cultures and foster stronger diplomatic ties among participating countries.
The festival attracted foreign missions from Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Europe, providing a platform for cultural exchange and public engagement.
Participating countries showcased various aspects of their cultural heritage through music, dance, and artistic performances.
A major highlight of the event was Colombia’s vibrant flag display and cultural performance, which drew enthusiastic applause from attendees.
