EPL: Ten-man City beat United 1-0 in Manchester derby

Manchester City secured their fourth consecutive Premier League win, beating Manchester United 1-0 in the 199th Manchester Derby at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Citizens were hit with a huge blow in the early stages when Phil Foden received his first-ever red card in the Premier League in the 23rd minute after an awful challenge on Bruno Fernandes, reducing Enzo Maresca’s men to 10.
Despite City’s deficit, United failed to convert several chances, with a set-piece opportunity from Marcus Rashford and another with Kobbie Mainoo hitting the post after a wonderful shot in the second half.
The hosts were punished as Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 60th minute after a brief VAR check. The goal made it his fourth goal of the new campaign and his eighth Manchester derby goal.
In stoppage time, United were close to equalising, but Gianluigi Donnarumma saved a shot from Bryan Mbeumo to seal the massive three points for his side.
The result for the Red Devils marks their second loss in four games of the new campaign, as they remain 13th in the league standings.
Elsewhere in Sunday’s fixtures, Coventry City failed to secure a point in their fourth Premier League game as Brighton clinched a 5-0 victory against the Sky Blues.
